MPLS TE - FRR

I have a scenario, where client has requested for MPLS - TE FRR and RPVST Support in access switches. We have recommended C9300 at access level along with C9400 + ASR at core.

My understanding is that ASR will take care of all the MPLS related things and we do not need this MPLS requirement at access level. Kindly correct me if my understanding is wrong.

Please share your feedback that do we really need a device at access layer that supports MPLS - TE FRR or once the ASR receives the Packet from Distribution Switch then ASR will handle the MPLS part.

Hi Nabeelcse,

You don't need to have enabled MPLS/FRR on access level let me explain to you where to where you will have MPLS in your network.

Site-A c9300 Access ----> connected to PE which is part of MPLS ----> Connected to P router ----> PE ---> Site-B

TE Tunnel will be established between the PEs and FRR as well.
