Public or Private IPs for Loopback on the MPLS core

I work on a service provider and we are currently in the process of installing a new Core network which will be using MPLS SR. What is recommended to use for the loopbacks of the routers?  public or private addresses.  my understanding is that as long as we user private addresses internally  for l3vpn and l2vpn circuits  we should be fine using private IP from RFC1918.  Is there an scenerio where we will need to have public internet routable IP for the loopbacks.

Technically does not matter my views, but why do we waste Public IP range when we are able to use RFC 1918 address space.

what is the use case here?
