VPLS query

I've been asked to research VPLS and the feasibility of deploying it across our core.

I understand most of the underlying concepts but I just need one point clarifying for everything to fall into place.

When it is considered that all sites in the Layer 2 VPN appear to be on the same LAN, does that mean the hosts on the internal LANs at each site appear to be on the same LAN, or do all of the WAN interfaces of the sites appear to be on the same LAN (similar to Frame Relay)?

Thanks

Steven

VPLS to all intents and purposes presents the WAN to you as a L2 switch. So hosts within your sites appear to be in the same LAN or vlan to be precise. There are no WAN interfaces in the same way as Frame relay as your are extending vlans across multiple sites.

Of course you can have multiple vlans within your sites and not have all the vlans shared between all sites. It's really up to you ie. there is nothing to stop you sharing some vlans between sites and having some vlans unique to each site.

Hope this makes sense.
