VRF for IPv6 On Local PE

Hi,

We need help for something problem vrf configuration on local PE if using IPv6, if IP Address on vrf be replaced with IPv4 the connection there is no problem,With IPv4 the same VRF on the local PE is functioning normally The following configuration :

vrf definition 6509_Test
description **** Test Browsing IPv6 ****
rd 38000:10010
!
address-family ipv4
route-target export 38000:10010
route-target import 38000:900
exit-address-family
!
address-family ipv6
route-target export 38000:10010
route-target import 38000:900
route-target import 38000:776
exit-address-family

vrf definition Testing_IPv6
description **** Test Browsing IPv6 ****
rd 38000:900
!
address-family ipv4
exit-address-family
!
address-family ipv6
route-target export 38000:900
route-target import 38000:10010

exit-address-family

interface GigabitEthernet1/35
vrf forwarding 6509_Test
ipv6 address 2404:8000:1745:1::E/126
ipv6 enable
end

interface Vlan900
vrf forwarding Testing_IPv6
no ip address
ipv6 address 2404:8000:70::1/64
ipv6 enable
end

#ping vrf Testing_IPv6 ipv6 2404:8000:1745:1::E

Type escape sequence to abort.
Sending 5, 100-byte ICMP Echos to 2404:8000:1745:1::E, timeout is 2 seconds:
.....
Success rate is 0 percent (0/5)

Gilang Rivai

Re: VRF for IPv6 On Local PE

interface GigabitEthernet1/35
vrf forwarding 6509_Test
ipv6 address 2404:8000:1745:1::E/126

#ping vrf Testing_IPv6 ipv6 2404:8000:1745:1::E

So, if I understood correctly you're trying to ping your own interface and it's not working. hmm, there should be something basic ... ip cef? or maybe IPv6 cef ? ipv6 routing

Re: VRF for IPv6 On Local PE

Hi,

You're doing: #ping vrf Testing_IPv6 ipv6 2404:8000:1745:1::E

The config:

interface GigabitEthernet1/35
vrf forwarding 6509_Test
ipv6 address 2404:8000:1745:1::E/126

So, 2404:8000:1745:1::E is in VRF "6509_Test", not int VRF "Testing_IPv6".

Thanks,

Luc

Re: VRF for IPv6 On Local PE

Hello Luc,

the original poster would probably like to have two different v6 VRFs to communicate to each other on the same device,  and for this reason he was trying to ping from the other v6 VRF.

However, it is not clear if the MP BGP configuration is in place in order to make the route-target configuration effective.

I see that the original poster has discussed the MP BGP configuration in another thread, but we don't know if it is applied in this test.

Hope to help

Giuseppe
