ISE 1.2 - WLC 5508 - NAS sends RADIUS accounting update messages too frequently

I'm getting this error in ISE referring to my Cisco 5508 WLC.  I'm not sure how to turn down the frequency.  Any ideas?

NAS sends RADIUS accounting update messages too frequently

Verify NAS configuration. Verify known NAS issues.

Yepp, I have seen this alarm, too.

Raised by a 2504 WLC and some (not all???) Cat4500 switches.

I have increased the "accounting update periodic" value on the switches to 120 mins, makes no difference at all ......

also, I am not able to check this bug CSCuh01760. Anyone here can post it or let me know what stage it's at now?

We are also receiving this issue on between ISE 1.3 patch 4 and our WLC's that are on 7.1. Can anyone suggest what version of WLC you have that is not displaying the error message on ISE?

Cheers

Just remove the WLCs from your ISE and add them back in. This worked for me.

I opened up a TAC case with Cisco yesterday and this is the response i got from them:

There is bug on the WLC side to reduce the number acct updates:

CSCug14713- WLC sends acct-update twice in the same millisecond

This is fixed in 8.x on the WLC.

So, it looks at though we just have to deal with it until they release an 8.x version for the WLC. In the meantime, you can disable the alerts in ISE.

Administration>Settings>Alarm Settings>Misconfigured Network Device Detected

Edit that alarm and set it to disabled

My customer still sees this alert with ISE 1.2.1.198 and WLC version 8.  I am not sure which patch version his ISE is on though. But seems that the update of WLC to version 8 didn't solve the issue.

I'm running ISE 1.3.0.876 with 8.0.100 on the controller and still getting this error.

please config a longer interval for interim update

Sent from Cisco Technical Support iPad App

can you explain were to configure a longer interval on a 5508 WLC?

@Shaoqin - Do you mean under  WLANs -> mywlan -> Security -> AAA Servers ?

Tick "Interim Update", what value is good? The default is 600.

Thanks in Advance,

Nick

I'm glad I'm not the only one with the problem - anyone know an ETA for WLC 8.0?

Hi,

The release date of WLC 8.0 was October 2013

Same problem here with ISE 1.2 and Cat6500, plus WiSM2

There is an opened bug that addresses this also.

CSCuh01760

The issue is that  WLC's, set for roaming, will send radius updates for clients roaming across AP's.

The radius update is expected in this case.

Work is being done to change the criteria of such radius updates.
