Introduction

%SYS-3-SYS_LCPERR3:Module X: Fatal exception occurred in Cisco Catalyst 6000 Series Switches, WS-X6348-RJ45 module reset.

Core issue

The %SYS-3-SYS_LCPERR3:Module X: Fatal exception occurred error message appears in Cisco Catalyst 6000 switches, and the WS-X6348-RJ45 module resets

Under rare conditions, some cards can reset when a link rapidly flaps. The %SYS-3-SYS_LCPERR3:Module X: Fatal exception occurred error message appears only if the link must go from down to up to down within 300ms.

This DDTS affects the following cards:

  • WS-6348-RJ21
  • WS-6148-RJ45
  • WS-6148-RJ21
  • WS-6348-100FX
  • WS-X6224-100FX-MT
  • WS-X6324-100FX-SM
  • WS-X6324-100FX-MM

Under rare conditions, these cards may reset when a link is rapidly  flapping. 
The link must go from down to up to down within 300ms. This bug affects all releases of CatOS and IOS software.

Workaround:
Disable the rapidly flapping port, or remedy the root cause of the link flap.

Resolution

As a workaround to this problem, disable the port using shutdown command that flaps rapidly. Alternatively, resolve the root cause of the link flap.
