3750 Upgrading IOS

I am trying to upgrade my 3750 IOS. I have reset the switch already. I am following this tutorial. I can not connect to the tftp however... I do have the TFTP server on and set up the way the instructions say to set it up.  Here is a copy/paste from PuTTY:

  1.  Switch#config t
Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z.
  2. Switch(config)#int vlan1
  3. Switch(config-if)#ip add 10.10.10.1 255.255.255.0
  4. Switch(config-if)#no shut
  5. Switch(config-if)#end
  6. Switch#
  7. Switch#ping 10.10.10.5
    Type escape sequence to abort.
Sending 5, 100-byte ICMP Echos to 10.10.10.5, timeout is 2 seconds:
    .....
Success rate is 0 percent (0/5)

  8. Switch#ping 10.10.10.1

  9. Type escape sequence to abort.
Sending 5, 100-byte ICMP Echos to 10.10.10.1, timeout is 2 seconds:
    !!!!!
    Success rate is 100 percent (5/5), round-trip min/avg/max = 1/1/1 ms

  10. Switch#copy flash tftp

  11. Source filename []? c3750-ipservicesk9-mz.122-35.SE5.bin

  12. Address or name of remote host []? 10.10.10.1

  13. Destination filename [c3750-ipservicesk9-mz.122-35.SE5.bin]?
    .....
    %Error opening tftp://10.10.10.1/c3750-ipservicesk9-mz.122-35.SE5.bin (Timed out)

Normally we use the "archive download-sw /overwrite tftp://source host>/image name command.

The image name is the tar variant of IO software image. If you are using the bin image, the the straight copy command works once you have enough space.

You cannot ping the PC at 10.10.10.5 - that's where your source image should be.

You're pinging yourself at 10.10.10.1 and of course that works. You cannot tftp the image from yourself (the switch). You need to get it from the host at 10.10.10.5 running the tftp server.

Is that host connected to a port on vlan 1? Is vlan 1 actually up?

The following would help:

show ip int br | ex una
show int status

show ip int br | ex una

What is the TFTP server running on?

Is the TFTP server a Windows box with FW turned ON?

And what happens if the command "copy tftp://10.10.10.5/c3750-ipservicesk9-mz.122-35.SE5.bin flash:c3750-ipservicesk9-mz.122-35.SE5.bin" was used?  What is the result?

Windows 8 x32 via SolarWinds TFTP Server
FW = Off
I copied your text and paste it into putty and it says

Switch#$-mz.122-35.SE5.bin flash:c3750-ipservicesk9-mz.122-35.SE5.bin
Destination filename [c3750-ipservicesk9-mz.122-35.SE5.bin]?

Your latest reply indicates VLAN 1 is configured as 192.168.1.99.

Your earlier post indicated you configured it as 10.10.10.1. If you're copying the file from a PC on 10.10.10.5 and your switch is on some other subnet, you need to be able to route traffic both ways.

It looks like that isn't in place. You need to fix that problem first.

I was just trying different IP addresses. My problem is that I can not connect to the TFTP server.

It's most likely a routing problem.

Can you tell us where the PC is with respect to the switch?

What happens when you try to traceroute from each end towards the other?

PC is maybe 2 foot from the switch...

I haven't run a tracer yet, as I can't figure out what hostname to use.

So is the PC plugged into a port on the switch?

If so, please tell us the current status on the switch of:

show ip int br | ex una
show int status | i 1/0/xx (xx - interface pc is plugged into)
show spann int fa1/0/xx

and on the PC:

ipconfig

Ping the PC's IP address from the switch and vice versa. Let us know what that shows.

How do I ping it from the switch, use PuTTY?

Yes - you would ping from the switch from within your PuTTY (or whatever terminal emulation software you are using) session.

Hmm... not sure what to do. Every time I use the |, it gives me an error.

show ip int br | ex una

So I went with out the symbol and this is what I get...

Switch#show ip int br

On my computer:

Win-> Cmd->:ipconfig = 192.168.1.126

If your PC is plugged into interface Fa1/0/29, the problem from the output above is that spanning tree for VLAN 1 is in LRN (learning) status.

Normally it should transition into forwarding withing 20-30 seconds.Until that happens, no traffic will be sent across that link (except BPDUs).

Try to configure the interface for spanning tree portfast - that should make it go straight into forwarding. check the "show spann" command again after you do.
