Anyone Using A Product That Shows Device Availablity

My managemetn wants to generate report showing avialability of circuits, and major network componets. The report generation has to be flexible (ie monthly, daily, weekly). Is anyone using such a product and can recommend it? They're mad because the rep said Cisco Works would do.

Thanks in advance,

Dave Holder

Depends on your definitions

You can get IPM to check the link between two devices, but you will have to create a collector for each.

You can create another collector for each "major network componet" to ping the ciscoworks server

These 2 actions will give reports that can be seem as an availability report.

Cheers,

Michel

CiscoWorks will give you some basic up/down reporting - however it is limited.

I would suggest trying an open source package. There are some out there that is very sophisticated and will give you the 'pretty' reports your management needs.

Give these a try:

NMIS - http://www.sins.com.au/nmis/

NeDi - http://nedi.sourceforge.net/

Nagios - http://www.nagios.org/

Hey Dave,

your name sounds very familiar. I don't owe you money do I? If I don't you can drop me an e-mail off-line at tdennis@DataSourcePro.com. Let's confirm that what you have won't do the job before you buy another product.

Thanks,

Travis

I'd recommend OpenNMS:

http://www.opennms.org

It's a little more advanced that Nagios and also gives you some of the same stuff as MRTG and MRTG derivatives.

Check www.statseeker.com

Gives all kind of reports from link utilisation down to port usage. Also has great managment reporting for SLA's. A bit pricy but good on large networks for full blanket monitoring.

For the Network Management u can USe the Net Disco Network Managemetn Tool an Open Source Product.
