Hi everybody!
we experienced a port failure om a brand new 5525X. The port looked to be up/up but no layer 2 traffic was transmitted. The interface was configured as outside, and when we moved outside to gig0/3 everything worked. We reloaded the ASA box twice, no luck.
any ideas how to debug a failure like this?
regards, Michael

There is no a specif command to check if the interface might be faulty, you can check the physical indicators such as the LED status ( green , amber , red , no light and the cabling.)
This document might help you to troubleshoot if there is any error on the interface
https://supportforums.cisco.com/document/47506/asa-oversubscription-interface-errors-troubleshooting
Otherwise the device needs to be replaced.

Hi Michael,
You can clear the interface counters and attempt to pass traffic and check if the counters increment.
clear interface gig0/x
Show interface gig0/x
If the conters do not increment might indicate a Hardware issue, if you have a valid Cisco contract feel free to open a ticket with Cisco TAC to replace the device.
Hope it helps

Hi Randy,
Thanks for the reply.
Is it safe to assume that if the interface counter does not increase, and the interface is UP/UP, it is a hardware failure? Isn’t there any command that would validate that the interface might be broken in some way?
