Audit of Switch Interfaces

Hello Network Gurus of the world!

In work we have a big audit coming up, in which we are required find what all the Machines, Floor-boxes and Ports are connected to. The current approach is going to be find each machine and trace it back all the way to the machine.

I would like to save allot of man-hours by being able to use are new Switch (9400) to Ping out and get a list of replies of what devices (Domain Names/IP's/Mac Addresses) are connected to what Interfaces.

I'm hoping the end result will allow me to make a list of what Device (with Domain) is connected out to what Interface on our Switch.

I am new to Networking so if someone could guide me through this problem, it will be highly appreciated.

Dump the mac forwarding table to get a list of mac addresses on every port.  On your default gateway dump the ARP table.  That will let you convert from MAC address to IP address.
