Automatic shutting down Cisco Router

Hi,

Can some tell me how to shutdown the cisco router/switches by itself  ( i mean to say by giving some commands ). Our cisco equipment is running on UPS. But after sometime thet get shutdown due to ups batteries problem.

Cisco routers and switches do not include a "shutdown" command - only "reload". Most routers have a physical power switch that one can toggle off. The switches don't - as long as there is adequate power via the mains, they will power up and run.

If you want to remotely power off a router or switch, you need to use an external solution such as a managed PDU or UPS that allows you to set the power outlets used by the Cisco equipment to "off".

But the problem if suddenly the power switched off, this may cause a damage in the router or switch, so, is there away to make the switch or router switched off by a software command?

 - As in the end the purpose of the software command would be to turn the router off the same argumenting still applies. Just as it would be for a windows-10 PC, when windows powers the PC down after a shutdown (this could , then, cause harm too). The only thing you need to do is to save the configuration. Besides default argumenting (reasoning), such as , possibly failing parts, there will be no harm on 'physical power off'.

I agree with Marcel. Routers do not suffer from being "suddenly" powered off. as long as the running-configuration has been saved to startup-configuration they should work perfectly fine.

Some branch routers with built-in UCS blades running services might be an exception as the services running on them MIGHT recover less gracefully. In a case like that, having a good UPS and operational procedure to gracefully shutdown the services is the best you can do.
