Hi forum,
Can I move VLAN 1 out to another VLAN, I have all the servers and switches placed at VLAN 1. If I want to move it to another VLAN, is that possible or advisable?
Thank you,
py

Hi Paul
You can create another vlan and move your servers under that.
You can also make VLAN 1 as your management vlan for your switches.

Thanks Kumar,
I actually can't change the IP on some servers, as there are many applications hardcoded with the servers.
Therefore my intention is to move the management vlan out to another vlan, I am not sure if this is possible.
Thank you,
paul

Hi Paul
do revert back the switch model which you are using up over there.
In simple layer 2 switches you can have only one SVI(VLAN interfce with ip address assigned).
But still you can shift the management vlan to other vlan id and keep the existing one in you lan.

Hi Kumar,
I am using 4500 series for one site, 3600 series for other sites. All these can move management vlan?
Do you mind to point me to the correct document?
Thank you,
paul

Hi Paul
I don't think you have any limitations with 4500 series switch when it comes to VLAN.
Again its the same with even Cisco 3600 router series where in you need to enable one more sub interface with desired encapsulation configured under that.
That should usually solve your purpose..
BTW how is your 3600 series box configured ?
Is it only configured for terminating the wan links or doing any other functionality like inter vlan routing too ?

Hi Kumar,
sorry, it is 3500 switch, not 3600 router.
Thanks much for your help.
