Cisco ASA SLA
sla monitor 1
type echo protocol ipIcmpEcho x.x.x.x interface outside
num-packets 3
timeout 1000
frequency 9
sla monitor schedule 1 life forever start-time now
I have configured the above SLA in my ASA firewall. Would like to understand what this SLA does ?
My understanding is that 3 ICMP packets will be sent every 9 seconds frequency.
But when will be the SLA violed. If 1 ping fails or 9 ping fails ?
Would like to understand if the IP is not reachable after how long time the SLA is violated.

your views are correct - timeout play a big role here
Timeout sets the amount of time (in milliseconds) for SLAs operation waits for a response from its request packet.
if there is no response then action to be a trigger .

Hi,
As for your example:
3 icmp echo packets are sent and the monitoring operation waits for a response. If the monitor does not get a response to at least one echo request (ie. all 3 fail) during 1000 milliseconds (1 second) the SLA is violated. This process repeats every 9 seconds.

Antonin
