Cisco catalyst 4500 VSS ios upgrade

Hi everyone,

Can anyone explain me complete step by step procedure to upgrade Cisco-4500-VSS ios with precautions and things to do during and after upgrade process.

Any help will be appreciated.

From my notes and i follow all the time and it works.

 

Pick one and read the Release Notes. Pay close attention to the OPEN and Resolved Caveats. 

 

There are several methods on how to upgrade the IOS on a VSS. There's the erratic ISSU/FSU/eFSU or the old-fashion-way. 

 

The old-fashion-way is: 

1. Copy the IOS to the active unit; 

2. Copy the IOS to the secondary unit; 

3. Change the boot variable string:

a. Remove the old boot variable string; 

b. Add a new boot variable string pointing to the new IOS; 

c. Add a second boot variable string pointing to the old IOS: 

4. Ensure the config-registry value is correct;

5. Save the config; and

6. Reboot

 

always do the back of the configuration and do it in maintenance window.

I'm going to agree with Balaji's response (rated!).
I also would like to emphasize about reading the Release Notes because, aside from the Open &/or Close Caveats, the notes will also specify if a ROMmon upgrade is required or not.
