CPU on server stays at 100%

I'm running LMS 2.5 on a Win2k Srv that has all the needed Service packs. When I HTTPS to CiscoWorks the CPU on the server spikes to 100% and stays there until I either reboot the server or stop/restart all CW services. Also, in the Taskmanger of the server i notice mutliple instances of cwjava.exe running.

Can anyone provide info on how to stop this spiking? CiscoWorks is totally unusable like this.

I think I know whats going on, someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. the first half hour or hour after starting lms 2.5 the cpu will max out at 100% after that It should go back to normal.

The same thing happens if you stop or start the services as well

Are you sure you have the correct JRE version installed? Also, be sure it's the only one on your server.

Well, if LMS 2.5 is the only app running on this box, WOULD there be any other JRE installed? does Cisco Works install mutiples?

I'm starting to hate CiscoWorks.

There shouldn't be any others, but you never know ...

Are you browsing from the server or a Client machine. In general, try and avoid accessing the web interface on the server itself as this really does kill the server !

Am I alone ? NO !...

me to "I'm starting to hate CiscoWorks".

SUN/Solaris user had this problem (% of CPU) ?

Thanks!

I'm noticing a similar issue where one particular instance of cwjava.exe consumes 60-80% of the CPU. Like you I have several cwjava.exe processes running. I opened a TAC case and they are working with engineering on this one. You can get the PID from task manager and associate it with what the process is. In my case ConfigMgmtServer is the culprit. Another point is it's starting at 2AM and spikes the CPU.

The following TAC case provides some suggestions for "cwjava.exe consumes CPU memory" i.e.

- Limit the number of devices managed by that process

- Increase the polling interval

- If possible, install the application using that process in a dedicated server

Also, if you have a large number of devices, check out the recommendations within the following white paper:

CiscoWorks in Large-Scale Network Environments

http://www.cisco.com/warp/customer/cc/pd/wr2k/prodlit/ckspp_wp.htm

Do you have a large number of devices ?

Do you have availability Monitoring setup (see CiscoWorks in Large-Scale Network Environments) ?

Do you have a large number of Syslog messages hitting the server ?

Are you running many CiscoWorks applications or just one or two ? On one of my customers network they have 2 separate servers both running only common services and RME because the network is so large ...

Have all minimum system requirements been met ? (these are VERY important : http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/rtrmgmt/cw2000/cw2000_d/comser30/ig_win/prereq.htm#wp1036866)

Hope this helps
