IOS Features and Licensing

Being new to Cisco, I have found I have no clue as to their IOS licensing agreements. Am I correct in understanding their IPBASE IOS is a different license from their IPServices IOS? I want to utilize HTTPS in accessing the web server, am I correct in saying I need the IPSERVICES feature set?

Guess I could have answered your actual question above :)

Actually you just need the ip base with crypto image to get the https server. Not sure if there's a licensing issue there, as you're not moving up to IP services, just enabling crypto features in the base IP image.

Assuming you have a 2800 series router the image name would be:

c2800nm-ipbasek9-mz.124-19.bin

The "k9" indicates crypto capability.

You're correct. You are technically licensed only for the version you purchased with your router. That hasn't stopped an awful lot of people from downloading more sophisticated feature sets and installing them (nothing in the device will stop you except for available flash/ram), but to be legit you should order the upgrade license from Cisco or your VAR. They'll charge you the difference, but you'll still go download it from CCO and install it on your device.

Check the feature navigator tool to identify which feature set you need to support your requirements:

Good luck!

Thanks for taking the time to answer my question.

Am I correct in saying that the ipbasic IOS does not support HTTPS?
