Hi,
Actually one of our customer already have LMS 2.6 running & we need to upgrade it to LMS 4.0.
As i went thru all the white papers, i came to conclusion that LMS4.0 cant install on the existing LMS version & it require fresh installation.
We can get the fresh evaluation copy of LMS 4.0 from Cisco online.
but my question is that if i am buying the lbelow license from Cisco
L-CWLMS-4.0-100UP Upg LIC for LMS 2.x,3.x to 4.0 100 Devices, Base Kit Req
how come cisco verify that we already have LMS2.6 as it is going to be a fresh installation?
because there is a huge price difference between L-CWLMS-4.0-100UP & CWLMS-4.0-100-K9?

The verification will be an administrative determination that Cisco sales team performs when determining if your customer is entitled to order the upgrade SKU.
There is no license file in LMS 2.6 or check that the LMS 4.0 installation files use. The LMS 4.0 non-evaluation license will be sent to you when you submit the PAK key to Cisco. PAK information is included when one purchases the upgrade (or non-upgrade) licensed SKU.
Hope this helps.

Yes, that is what I did successfully for an LMS 3.2 to 4.0 upgrade.
Note that if you are intending to manage more than 100 devices, you will need an LMS 4.0 license for the correct tier of managed devices.
