Hi.
I´m having some problems to use the Topology Service.
I receive the following message:
I made an entry in the HOSTS file (c:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc), but It doesn´t work:
How can I solve the problem ?
Thanks.

Hi,
LMS uses ../CSCOpx/bin/perl ../CSCOpx/bin/resolver.pl to determine Hostnames/IP addresses.
Run resolver.pl from a CMD shell once on the hostname and again for the IP. They should return the same info.
Have you restarted the services? net stop crmdmgtd / net start crmdmgtd (then wait 20 min before checking topology)
Note: Disable any anti-virus software and be logged in as the LOCAL Administrator user during troubleshooting.
Thanks

Hi ngoldwat.
The server was not reachable by name because it was out of the domain.
Thanks.

Hi Walter
I have the exact same problem. When I try to resolve using the resolver.pl, I get no result no matter how long time I wait. I use it like this:
"resolver.pl hostname" and "resolver.pl ip".
Do you have any other suggestions?
06-03-2013 07:02 AM
Be sure to use
../CSCOpx/bin/perl ../CSCOpx/bin/resolver.pl
06-04-2013 12:39 AM
Ehm,... would you be kind to explain "use"?
This is how my prompt look like:
D:\Program Files\CSCOpx\bin>resolver.pl hostname
and
D:\Program Files\CSCOpx\bin>resolver.pl ip
(of course hostname and ip are replaced with the hostname and ip of the Ciscoworks server).

resolver.pl is a perl script. So, you need perl to run it.
../CSCOpx/bin/perl ../CSCOpx/bin/resolver.pl
06-04-2013 05:26 AM
Sorry for hijacking the thread. If you want, I can start a new. Just let me know.
I do understand that it's a perlscript, but I don't get "../CSCOpx/bin/perl ../CSCOpx/bin/resolver.pl". Is that the syntax? This is the output I get when I try it:
"D:\Program Files\CSCOpx\bin>../CSCOpx/bin/perl ../CSCOpx/bin/resolver.pl hostname
'..' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file."
If I just run the script as I believe it should, I get this:
"D:\Program Files\CSCOpx\bin>resolver.pl hostname
Terminating on signal SIGINT(2)
Terminating on signal SIGINT(2)
D:\Program Files\CSCOpx\bin>"
The termination is recieved when my patience runs out and I hit Ctrl-C. I believe that I'm supposed to get an answer within a short while so I don't feel bad about terminating after 10 minutes. The result also tells me that the script is executed, but something prevents it from achieving the answer.

Just try :
D:\Program Files\CSCOpx\bin>perl resolver.pl <hostname or IP>
-Thanks
06-04-2013 05:37 AM
Thanks. That helped.
D:\Program Files\CSCOpx\bin>perl resolver.pl Hostname
Original name: Hostname
Hostnames/IP Addresses:
Hostname/IP
Hostname/0:0:0:0:0:0:0:1
D:\Program Files\CSCOpx\bin>perl resolver.pl IP
Original name: IP
Hostnames/IP Addresses:
Hostname .Domain.local/IP
As seen, the server is still in the domain.
I still receive the same answer as Walter when I try to start Topology Service. Do you have any other ideas how to solve it?

Is your LMS Server multihomed and have two IP addresses?
06-05-2013 07:14 AM
Nope. One IP only.

You should actually enable java console on your PC from control panel.
Control > Advanced > Java Console > show console.
Try to launch topology again. It will launch the Java console, please share the output from there.
-Thanks

Done and done. Funny thing is, ...IT WORKS. Yep. Ciscoworks is now working again. What made it work again

As you can see, I'm running Java6 (1.6.0_22). I'll try to investigate what solved the problem and post it here later.
