LMS 4.2.5 topology view is not updating the devices status when disconnected

Dear,

I have installed LMS 4.2.5 and discovered the devices and they are in reachable state, Also a data collection was done and device management was altered.

Everything is okay except the topology view that shows the devices in green state, but when I try to disconnect any device it is not reflected on the topology view as marking the device in red or the link.

here is the snmp commands that I have used:

mp-server group snmpgroup v3 auth

snmp-server user lmsuser snmpgroup v3 auth md5 lmsuser123

snmp-server group snmpgroup v3 auth write v1 notify v1

Topology view is not a real time status map. It being updated will depend on your ANI polling cycle.

The near real time display would be in the alarm and/or syslog browsers.

dear marvin,

Thank you for your reply, but i have disconnected some devices and waited for a really long time with no effect.

I can see from the topology view when i navigate to device dashboard that the device is not reachable after 5 minutes or so but it is not reflected at all on the view.

I am afraid that there is a compatibility issue with the JAVA version or the Internet Explorer.

You have to go to:

right click on the device in the topology view and "add device to critical poller"

Then go toL

Admin > Collection Settings > Data Collection > Data Collection Critical Devices Poller

and set your time, the min is 5 secs

Thank you for your reply.

Now after i followed your advice, The devices are discovered as reachable and not reachable very fast, But they wont show up automatically on the topology view.

If i closed the topology view and re open it, it works, but only if i closed and re-opened the veiw.

Maybe i have a java problem or a browser problem, I have i.e 11.0 and mozilla 23 as written in the datasheet.

and the java is 7u21 downloaded from the LMS.

Any idea dear.

Topology view worked perfectly in ver 2.5, but when they went to ver3 and beyond it has never worked right since and then you throw the java nightmare on top of it and it just gets worse.

The only time I go into topo view is if I want to quickly see where spanningtree has blocked ports, other than that I haven't found much use for it.

Good luck

Hi,

Please help on this issue. I am also facing same kind of issue. Device and link failures are not reflecting on Topology until it reopens.

How to change ANI polling cycle?

Thanks,

Jomin

Hi Jomin

Topology is not design to provide real time status, it will update base on the pollers above mentioned and the only way to reflect that on the map is by reopening it, is not a problem with java or LMS, is just by design.
