Does anyone know any software or utlites that can be run on a network which gathers information and builds a network topology like table?

How many nodes and of what types are you looking to map?

We use Cisco Works and Ipswitch Whatsup Gold.

The Whatsup product can discover all your SNMP information that's configured on devices, but you'll have to manually make interface associations and maps. It takes a little up front work, but to us has been a very good monitoring/notification tool.
