NTP server in switch ?

Hello, I need a NTP server for an Offline IP Doorcom installation. As there will be a switch in any case to connect the doorcom devices, it would be ideal to have the NTP feature in the switch.

Do you know a reference of switch with battery backup that is capable to do NTP server, at affordable price ?

Thank you !

 - It wouldn't ; better is to separate network services from other functionalities such as NTP because of possible race conditions ,
look into using an NTP appliance for instance .

Thank you for your quick answer.
My problem is that the solution must be affordable for small buildings. For
the moment I only found NTP servers over 600€, that's why I wanted to use a
device that is needed anyway to hide this overcost.
Do you know references of low cost NTP servers ?

Hello,

with NTP feature you mean what exactly ? Cisco switches can serve as NTP servers. And with battery backup you mean an external power source in case there is a power outage ?

Yes I mean NTP server, to be master of the clock for all the devices on the
LAN, and with battery backup, I mean a battery inside the switch, like in a
PC (that can also be used as NTP server, but there is no PC in the IP
Doorcom system). I don't want to add an UPS.

This should cost <€600:  The Raspberry Pi as a Stratum-1 NTP Server

Hello,

the Catalyst switches can function as an NTP master (which is the same as being an NTP master). The smaller ones (CBS/SG) can only be (S)NTP clients. Depending on how much you want to spend (the Catalyst switches are relatively expensive), the suggestion made by @Leo Laohoo might be a better option...

No, Cisco routers, switches, FW, WLC cannot be used as an authoritative NTP server because the internal clock will drift.
