Hi,
after upgrading from Prime LMS 4.1 to 4.2 (Windows version) the "All Devices" group and all the other system defined groups are empty.
The "Inventory dashboard" shows 397 reachable devices which is correct. I can access the devices when I type the name into the search field in the upper right corner of the LMS page.
When I open a device selector (e.g. from the "Device Management" tab) all system defined groups are empty.
When I make a new user defined group with the definition "IP address contains '1'" I get a group with all devices.
Any ideas?

When I make a user defined group with this definition:
Device.Category equals "Switches and Hubs"
it is empty, too.
When i make a new user definded group with this definition:
Device.Category contains "unknown"
it contains all my devices (Switches and Hubs, Interfaces an Modules).
When I go into Device Center and enter the name of one of my Switches it shows
"Device Type Switches and Hubs"
correctly.
Seems that the device category is somehow incorrect?

I just upgraded from 4.0.1 to 4.1 to 4.2.1 and I'm having the same problem. the only place I can see the devices is under subnets.

Follow the below steps to solve the Device Selector showing zero devices. 1. Stop DM 2. Uninstall Mdf package through PSUCli 3. Install Mdf package through PSUCli 4. Start DM.
Refer the bug for CSCua79519 for more details.

I am referring to Mdf package uninstallation and installation.
PSUCli.bat -p cmf -uninstall Mdf
PSUCli.bat -p cmf -download -dst=c:\ Mdf
PSUCli.bat -p cmf -install -src c:\cmf Mdf

I just installed device package updates and now I seem to be the in the same situation as the poster of this discussion, except that I am on Solaris. Does this issue affect LMS 4.2 on Solaris? Device types appear to be unkown and therefore most information is missing for the devices. When I go to add a device and click on the select button for device type it is completely blank. Is there a fix for this issue on Solaris?
Thank you,
Mark

I opened a TAC case on my issue and found that it isn't the same bug. It is another bug. Bug#
CSCue59646. An incorrect xml file is created when doing a device package install. It is first seen in version 4.1 and fixed in version 4.2(4).
Workaround:
-remove original mdfdata_NonCisco.xml
-rename devicedata.xmlmdfdata_NonCisco.xml to mdfdata_NonCisco.xml
-restart LMS Workaround:
-remove original mdfdata_NonCisco.xml
-rename devicedata.xmlmdfdata_NonCisco.xml to mdfdata_NonCisco.xml
-restart LMS
Thank you,
Mark

FYI it looks like the 4.2(4) fix was missed in the rollup 4.2(5) update. I just deployed a new server and went from the 4.2 build straight to 4.2(5) per the supported upgrade path.
I was seeing the issue reported here and until I found this thread it was vexing me a bit. Implementing the fix reported by mark-baker remedied the server and I now am managing the devices properly.
