RPS 300 operation with 2950 switches

Hi,

We have a RPS 300 supplying redundancy to 3 2950s, i have a question about the operation of the rps.

In testing we found that when we remove the ac power lead from one the switches(cut its power) then, as expected, the rps detects the loss of power, and supplies power to the switch ok.

However, if we then restore the ac power to the switch (reconnect ac power lead) we found that that the switch remains powered but performs a reboot.

Is this the correct behaviour?

As an added point, we did the same test but this time with the RPS supporting only one switch, i.e. one-to-one.

In this case when we restored ac power the switch does not reboot.

I've read the rps 300 docs over and have not found the details of what should happen here.

Why does the switch reboot in one case and not the other?

I realise the switches/rps should be powered of the same AC supply and that in the event of a power supply failure then a replace/repair would occur.

but any light on the issue raised would be great,

cheers,

John

This is expected behavior of the power failure mechanism. A reboot is necessary when switching from RPS300 to the normal a/c power source.

We have the found the same situation. It happens on some switches and not others, that is expected behavior?
