Secondary Core switch Upgrade question

Hello all,

I have a plan to upgrade our secondary core switch stack from C9200 48 Port on version 17.3.5 to a C9300 with yet to be upgrade OS. The only question i have at the moment came from an issue i encountered when upgrading to ten gig network modules. and the issue that came about was that the 10G NM would only connect to other C9200 switches running the same version IE version 17.3.4 could not connect to 17.3.5 and Vice versa. Would this become an issue with a different switch? IE c9200 on 17.3.5 to C9300 on the most up to date version? Or if some one has an article in mind that i could read that would be appreciated.

Hi, I’m not sure, whenever I got your Idea right, but if you plan to stack 9200 with 9300, it won’t work in any case. Here are the rules for 9300 stacking

Mixed stacking between Catalyst 9300 and Catalyst 9300X and Catalyst 9300 higher scale models (C9300-24UB, C9300-24UXB, C9300-48UB) is not supported. You cannot stack fixed uplink models (C9300L SKUs) with modular uplink models (C9300 SKUs) or other Catalyst switches, e.g. Cisco Catalyst 3850 and 3650 Series. Any combination of Catalyst 9300 models can form a stack. Separately, any combination of Catalyst 9300L models can form a stack. Catalyst 9300 higher scale SKUs (C9300-24UB, C9300-24UXB, C9300-48UB) need to be stacked with other higher scale models.

Or simple 9300L with 9300L and 9300 with 9300

hi @Tima_20 sorry for the confusion this stack will be strictly 9300. so basically the simple topology will be Primary Core stack(9200) connected Via 10G fiber SFP to Secondary Core stack (9300). The only reason i had this question was because in the past for my 9200's they would not connect over 10G fiber unless they were operating on the same version. But i will check out that article you sent thank you.
