SNMP in SG-500 switch

Hi to All,

I have a problem in my SG-500 switch when using SNMP in my network monitoring tool.

I installed PRTG in my PC and configured a switch to send SNMP traffic. However the message in PRTG shows this everytime I add sensor on the PRTG server.

ERROR:

Sorry, the scan for available monitoring items has failed!

Could not create the sensor SNMP Traffic on device 192.168.100.1 (Test Switch) (192.168.100.1).

The sensor does not get a response from the device you want to monitor. The reason might be that the SNMP credentials are wrong or that the device does not support the required up time OID (1.3.6.1.2.1.1.3.0) for traffic sensors. To resolve this issue, check the SNMP access rights of the device or contact the device vendor. (code: PE244)

My PC is in 192.168.100.2 with PRTG installed and my switch is in 192.168.100.1 . I can ping each other. However I cant add sensor with SNMP to monitor the link on the switch connected to my PC.

Switch config:
snmp-server community test ro 192.168.100.2 view Default
snmp-server host 192.168.100.2 traps version 2c test

PRTG:
Community string = test

Please help me. Im stuck on this.

Thank you very much

 - For testing try relaxing the access controls a bit, start with free-snmp access for all (to the switch). Check if this 'initial condition' would work.

Hi Marce

Thank you very much for this information.

I just found out the command "snmp-server server" is not activated on the switch.

Also, you can enable it on the WEB GUI by going to SECURITY>TCP/UDP SERVICES>enable SNMP

Thank you very much

What do you mean by that sentence ?
