%STP-W-PORTSTATUS: gixx: STP status Forwarding

Hello,

I'm currently doing my tests with a SG350-28P 28-Port Gigabit PoE Managed Switch,

but I have the same issue with other models.

The error occour with a specific device, that is a fog generator.

After about 5 minutes that I plug it, I get the subject's error and I lose the ping, but the port continue to link

I'm sure that the network card of this fog generator is not very performing, because it always aligns at 10Mbit half duplex,

but at least it works with others brand of switches.

Any suggestion?

I want clarify that I have the same issue with many cisco switches and many of this fog generators, because we use that in different stores.

I tried to disable STP for the port used, without solving

Any suggestions?

Sure, I manually set 10MB half duplex and disabled STP

Here is the configuration:

I did this test, again with no benefits:

switcha2489d#show running-config interface GigabitEthernet5
interface GigabitEthernet5
speed 10
duplex half
no negotiation
description FogGenerator
spanning-tree portfast

Or:

interface GigabitEthernet5
speed 10
duplex half
no negotiation
description FogGenerator
spanning-tree disable
spanning-tree portfast

Could it be that stp error is only a consequence? But there are not other warnings

I lose the ping after few time

is there any service effecting, or just you concern about Log message

Honestly 10MB is too old , time to ask vendor upgeade (i know some box we can migrate or get upgrade, )

i this case i suggest to get Local Hub and conenct to device and switch only see alternative option.

Hello,

it's not only log message, I lose the ping and the connection with the fog software.

I admit that it should be a very old card, but the issue occour only with Cisco Switches.

Now that I've disabled Spanning-tree, there aren't any messages, I even set the log level to maximum debug,

no any message, I just lose connection and the port remains active and blinking.

Anyway, if you think that not exists other settings that I can try, I have to find a different solution...

%STP-W-PORTSTATUS: gixx: STP status Forwarding

as per the message it trying STP, but you mentioned it is disabled, So that should stable. you still have connection lost,. you need check the Physical Cable also (to elimate the issue) - try as suggested method hub, see if that fix ?

What do you mean by hub?

I tried a small 5-port switch as a bridge and in this case it works, I never lose the connection.

I also tried to change many cables, also of different categories, without good results

May be newer device(switch) may have compatable issue with old device like you mentioned.

What do you mean by hub?

tried a small 5-port switch   - this is what i have suggeted,  becuase that has more lower compatable.

10MB faded already in the market, now 100MB go soon. becuase more next generation higher bandwidth.

make sense ?
