my network will be the carrier media for several services. data, CCTV, access control, access points, IPTV and IP telephony ...etc.

i have cisco 9407r as a core switch and 9200 and 9300 as access switches. i need to assign VLAN and subnet for each service. i need help with the design of the IP scheme.

here is an example for 10 Vlans:

 

Vlan 1
Network 192.168.1.0/24
Hosts: 254
Host Range: 192.168.1.1 - 192.168.1.254

Vlan 2
Network 192.168.2.0/24

Host Range: 192.168.2.1 - 192.168.2.254

Vlan 3
Network 192.168.3.0/24
Hosts: 254

you can choose class A or B or C, depending on your choice

 

for VLAN 10 More 254, so it can be /23 to /21 depends on size of the network,  others you can use /24

Hello,

 

how many Vlans/subnets do you need, and how many hosts/IP addresses need to be in each subnet ?

around 10 VLAN.. for data i need the block size to be more than 254.. for others VLAN 254 is enight

depends on how big the carrier is - what is the user base expecting each service?  You like to use Local RFC 1918 address then /16 mask start with and do subnet based on the services. also if you are a member you can apply for Public IP space from the respected body of the region you belong to.

 

 

IP planning is very important and reserved for each service with Long term plan saves a lot of time.
