We have an old version of Unified Operations Manager (v2.3). I see in the Data Sheets that the latest version is Cisco Prime Unified Operations Manager 9.0. So it appears they simply added Prime to the name?
But I also see a note on the main webpage that it "became Cisco Prime Collaboration". Can someone explain the difference between Cisco Prime Unified Operations Manager and Cisco Prime Collaboration?
Also in terms of migrating from v2.3 to v9, I imagine I'll do a full re-install rather than an upgrade. What are my licensing options? Are there any license subscription options that if I have now would allow me to upgrade to v9, or do I need to purchase an upgrade?
Thanks
Bill

Hi,
What is the difference between OM versions? One BIG difference is OM is now multi-tenant capable. Below are more for 8.6 & 9.0.
From Q&A
Cisco Prime Unified Operations Manager 9.0 is a minor release, no upgrade charge from 8.x under SAS agreement, and adds support for Unified Communications Manager 9.0. It also provides new features:
• Third-party device support: This new feature extends UOM device coverage to monitor non-Cisco devices that are essential for an end-to-end Unified Communications solution. Applications like Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) server, Exchange server, or any Windows/Linux-based application server that supports the following MIBs can now be monitored using UOM:
– MIB-2: System and interface details
– HOST-Resources-MIB: CPU and memory usage
• Unified Presence monitoring enhancement: UOM can now monitor new performance metrics such as total successful logins, active instant messaging (IM) sessions, IM in last 60 sessions, and other information that provides deeper visibility on the performance of a Presence server.
• Scales up to 60,000 IP phones: Single instance of UOM can manage up to 60,000 IP phones and 2500 IP devices.
• Trunk/route group utilization: This enhancement feature helps administrators to proactively monitor channel utilization per route group (RG). In the event of configured threshold violations at the RG level, UOM generates a "High Route Group Utilization" alert. Note: this feature works only on UCM integrated with Media Gateway Control Protocol (MGCP) gateways.
• Enterprise license manager support: This enhancement feature helps administrators to proactively monitor license usage of Cisco Unified Communications Manager and Cisco Unity® Connection deployed in an enterprise license manager server.
Cisco Unified Operations Manager 8.6 is a minor release and adds support for Unified Communications 8.6. It also provides new features:
• Multi-customer support: Ability to monitor multiple customers' Unified Communications deployments through a single Cisco Unified Operations Manager instance
• Network Address Translation (NAT) support: Ability to monitor Unified Communications and underlying transport infrastructure devices sitting behind the NAT wall
• Cisco Unified MeetingPlace® Enterprise monitoring enhancements (supported from MeetingPlace 8.5)
– Conference statistics including current meetings, total meetings occurred in the last 24 hours, and peak hour of the day
– License summary: Maximum and used audio/video licenses
– Audio/video port utilization statistics
• Cisco Unified Presence monitoring enhancements (supported from Presence Server 8.5 and later)
– Monitors key performance statistics including user login rate, active online users and their active instant messaging (IM) sessions
• Cisco Voice Portal monitoring enhancements
– Monitors key performance statistics including current and total call load
– Monitors ports capacity statistics including ports are in use, ports requested vs. denied
• Cisco Unity® Connection monitoring enhancements
– Detects primary and secondary Unity Connection nodes in an Unity Connection cluster
– Monitors and alerts database replication and fail over status
• Voice gateway diagnostic view to quickly know the gateway health and to observe the gateway resource utilization
• Trunk usage summary
– Summary of all the managed public switched telephone network (PSTN) trunks and their health
I'd agree that a fresh install is a good option. In that case this virtualization document may be helpful. However if you would like to upgrade, here is how to upgrade CUOM 2.2 and 2.3 to CUOM 8.0.
A) User needs to take full system back of CUOM2.2/2.3
(Can be done from command line or GUI, Refer user guide for more details)
B) Uninstall the old version of CUOM
(After uninstall delete manually the left over files and directories from CSCOpx folder)
C) Install CUOM 8.0 afresh
D) After installation and reboot of server, User needs to do the following
- net stop OMHealthMonitor
- net stop CRMDMgtd
- run the restore tool
perl "c:\Progra~1\CSCOpx\bin\restorebackup.pl" -d c:\om22
(This restores and upgrades the earlier backed up CUOM 2.2/2.3 data to CUOM 8.0)
- net start CRMDMgtd
- net start OMHealthMonitor
- Wait for 30 minutes and Rediscover all the devices.
Lastly, from the ordering guide, regarding the name Prime: Premier Integrated Management Experience.
"Cisco Prime Collaboration is the evolution of the separate management products for Cisco voice and video, replacing Cisco Prime Unified Communications Management Suite (UCMS) and its four component products (Cisco Prime Unified Provisioning Manager [UPM], Cisco Prime Unified Operations Manager [UOM], Cisco Prime Unified Service Monitor [USM], and Cisco Unified Service Statistics Manager [USSM]) and Cisco Prime Collaboration Manager. Note: The historical reporting capabilities inherent within Cisco Unified Service Statistics Manager will be included in the next release of Cisco Prime Collaboration, tentatively named Cisco Prime Collaboration 9.5."

Those products are outside my personal expertise but you can attend the weekly series given by the business team. they give an overview, demo and have a Q&A session. The series is open to customers, partners and Cisco employees alike.
Unfortunately you just missed the one on Prime Collaboration - it's offered every Tuesday at 11:00 am PST.
Details are in the attached PDF file.
