Upgrade from LMS 3.1 on Solaris to LMS 4.1 on Linux appliance

Hi,

Has anyone tried this upgrade ? Any gotchas ?

I understand that there are two steps:

Remote upgrade from LMS 3.1 on Solaris to LMS 4.0 on Solaris

Remote upgrade from LMS 4.0 on Solaris to LMS 4.1 on Linux appliance

How can I get LMS 4.0 on Solaris media and license for 500 devices for the first step ?

Any suggestions and comments are welcome!

Thanks in advance,

Alex

Although the documentation indicates that 3.1 backup to 4.1 restore is not supported, it may actually work. I suspect it's just not a tested / verified migration path. It wouldn't hurt to try to do the backup on LMS 3.1 on Solaris and then migrate the data directly into your new fully-licensed LMS 4.1 on Linux installation.

Reference the Installing and Migrating guide for the details.

If that doesn't work, perhaps the TAC can help you out with a copy of the media for LMS 4.0 on Solaris. The license shouldn't be necessary as you only need that installation temporarily as a staging spot for your target 4.1 installation which you already have the license for. Devices beyond the 100 allowed in the evaluation license will simply be unmanaged during the short period you are running LMS on that platform. Your 3.1 installation can continue to chug along while you work on getting the appliance up on 4.1.

Hope this helps.
