Is it possible to import the config of a 5510 to a 5520. Trying to replace two 5510's with 5520's and wondering is there a way import the existing config files for the 5510's into the 5520's?

Hi,

To my understanding the only real difference in the configuration format between ASA5510 and ASA5520 is the interface type

  • ASA5510 = Ethernet0/x
  • ASA5520 = GigabitEthernet0/x

I would suggest trying the following

  • Copy the configuration from ASA5510 to a file on a TFTP-server
  • Open the file with a text editor and replace the Ethernet -> GigabitEthernet and save the file
  • Upload the saved file to the Flash of the new ASA 5520
  • Erase the ASA5520 configuration to the very default
    • This will remove the configuration you had to load the file to the ASA
    • Reboot the ASA
  • After the ASA5520 has rebooted type copy flash:/ running-config
    • Save your new configuration to the ASA5520

I did this when I tested a 5540 ASA 8.2 -> 8.4 NAT migration on a ASA5510 (but in reverse regarding the interface types compared to your setup ofcourse )

Do notice there might be other things you need to do

  • Have the correct files on the new ASA5520 Flash that the migrated configuration might refer to
  • etc
