ASA 5505 Office Config

ccarter81
Level 1
Level 1

I have a Dentist Office I deal with and am putting in a Cisco ASA 5505 for HIPAA compliance. I have set up in a corporate environment for devices like 5512, 5510, and 5520, but this setup is different since I don't  have an actual external IP to use for the outside interface configuration. He uses Verizon Fios with an Actiontec Router and wireless is through a Netgear Router. My question is how would I set this up and make sure all traffic destined for outside goes through the firewall. Would I set up the AP in AP mode and plug the outside interface into the Verizon router and inside into the LAN switch? So far here is my config. Thanks in advance for your help

However the network is now, like you said is flat. So place the outside interface of the ASA on that network..you are creating an entirely new LAN segment for the "Inside". You are then going to NAT that network to the Outside interface on the ASA which belongs to the Verizon router provided LAN.

It's that simple, I provided the config previously.

It's like you said, not ideal but it's no biggie. Configure your ASA as would any other time, I dare say his internal range will be 192.168.1.0/24 (.1 being the Verizon router)

I'd use a L2 switch, a 2960 or a L3 3560 would be great for DHCP Pool for Inside

interface vlan 192 (just making it up)

ip address 192.168.1.200 255.255.255.0

nameif outside

interface Ethernet0/0

switchport access vlan 192

description Connection to Verizon Router

int vlan 10

ip address 10.10.1.200 255.255.255.0

nameif inside

interface Ethernet0/1

switchport access vlan 10

object network DENTIST_INSIDE

subnet 10.10.1.0 255.255.255.0

nat (inside,outside) dynamic interface

route outside 0 0 192.168.1.1

Now on the Verizon router, login 192.168.1.1

Go to Firewall Settings->Static NAT

Create a NAT rule to 192.168.1.200, input the public IP found on the front page of the Verizon router. Click ok or apply.

For VPN, go to Port Forwarding and add the following

443

UDP 500

L2TP

PPTP

You should be good to go...check the xlate on the ASA and should see traffic being NAT'd out

thanks for the response david. So you are saying for outside to not use the public IP but use the internal IP on the router instead as the public IP then connect the outside interface on ASA to internet port on Verizon Router? DHCP is coming from Domain controller so I will remove DHCP from ASA altogether. His network is flat so currently everything is 192.168.0.0/24. So are we saying to break off the internal network to a 10.10.1.0/24 or something similar to differentiate the traffic? Thanks again for your help.

ok David I must be doing something wrong. I set up my inside with the network for the wireless which is 192.168.1.0/24 and my outside as 192.168.0.0/24 which is where my actual Arris router is. Currently testing using Arris and not Verizon Router. Once I do this I set up everything the way you said and can't get access out. Below is my config. Hopefully you can show me what is wrong. Sorry late response, but I have been overseas.
