ASA 5510 7.0.7 upgrade

Hi Team,

I have aa ASA 5510:

Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance Software Version 7.0(7)

Device Manager Version 5.0(9)

Hardware:   ASA5510, 256 MB RAM, CPU Pentium 4 Celeron 1600 MHz

Internal ATA Compact Flash, 256MB

BIOS Flash M50FW080 @ 0xffe00000, 1024KB

I am searching to upgrade the IOS to the lastest relase possible (asa842-k8.bin and asdm-645-106.bin)

Is it recommended to do such an upgrade?

Is there any step by step procedure to achieve this?

I was searching the cisco website and found that i have to go through a step by step version upgrade:

7.0(7) -> 7.1 -> 7.2 ->...8.4 is this true or i can just go directly to 8.4?

Should I change or modify anything to the current config?

Thank you for your help on this.

Regards

.

Hi Varun,

Thank alot for that doc it is very helpfull.

just to make sure i understand correctly, i should face an issue upgrading from:

7.0 -> 7.2 --> 8.0 --> 8.2 but from 8.2 to 8.3 there's some CLI changes right?

Again thanks for your help

Hi Charbel,

Yes there are a few command changes and for 7.0.x, you can upgrade in the same chain:

7.0 ->7.2 --> 8.0 --> 8.2 but from 8.2 to 8.3

Once you upgarde from 8.2 to 8.3, there arer cahnges only in the NAT and ACL statements, the syntax for the nat statements changes.

You can use the doc attached to see the nat changes in ASA 8.3

Varun
