I've noticed some strange behavior of the fans on my ASA 5510.
First, are the two fans on the right side of the box (as viewed from the front) supposed to run? On mine, only the two fans on the left side of the box ever run.
Second, sometimes the two fans on the left side of the box speed up greatly and run this way for several minutes. Is this normal behavior?

Mine does the same. The fans on the right speed up and run high for at least two minutes every five minutes or so. Very strange, and from what I gather there is not a temperature sensor that we can monitor.

I just received my ASA 5510 and rack mounted it. Experienced the fan situation you have described here and have pulled it from the rack and desktop mounted it just in case... I have not found a way to keep the temperature correct so as to keep the fans running at a slower RPM or more constant state.
Have either of you discovered any improvements?
I have the AIP slot installed... does that play a role in this?

FYI, I started a tac request and they're doing and RMA because, as the Tech said "I'm plenty sure the hardware is failing"
so return your equipment if possible.
