ASA 5525 X - can IPS be added later?

Hi,

new to the community.  I did a search on this question and came up with nothing.  We're looking at replacing an existing ASA  5520 with an ASA 5525 and at this particular point we're simply not sure we really need the IPS plus the cost is double.  my question is can IPS be added/installed later?  I've done some reading on this and it 'appears' the IPS is 'embedded' and has to be installed.  Can we purchase the 5525 and if we get to the point of needing that additional protection, can we pay the additional $5000 for the license and install then?

again, new to the community - not sure if this is the place to ask this question.

Would like some input please

Thanks

Dee

Hello Delluah,

The way the ASA 5525X behaves ( Sharing sistem resources bewteen each other CPU,RAM,Flash) it is embedded ( No need for hardware module)

Hi Julio,

I'm not sure that answered my question.  are you saying that I would need to purchase the 5525 IPS if we eventually want to implement it?  I understand it's software, what I'm not understanding is does it come. embedded, on the 5525 X or does one have to purchase the 5525 IPS?  is the only difference between the 5525 x and the 5525 IPS is licensing? the 5525 IPS comes with the license for the IPS?

just trying to get it straight,

D

Hello Delluah,

It comes embedded....

You do not need to buy it..

Correct licensing is the difference. You need to purchase to use it.
