ASA Cluster : Failover

Good day,

So we have two cisco asa 5516-X which is configured as Cluster.

Everything is smooth until we tested the failover.

We connected the Cluster Control Link between the two Firewalls [Interface Gig 1/8] on both firewalls

When we tested to poweroff the Slave in the cluster, the interface gig1/8 also go down, as well as the cluster on both ASA and the port channels as well.

Is there a work around on this? Without using switch in between?

Maybe there's cluster configuration which will can make the port channels active even though cluster control link is down?

Thanks a lot!
