Can someone please advise me what does really mean perpetual  here. (I know the word perpetual mean somthing not change) and why doest it automatically adding to the show version output on vers 8.4.(x), is there any specific reason..?

thanks in advance.

Hi,

I think perpetual means unlimited duration of time

Regards,

Sayed

No,  For permenent key, it displays the keyword of 'perpetual', for timebased keys it displays the duration of the key in terms of the days, the show version may read like this as well:

Maximum Physical Interfaces    : Unlimited      perpetual
   Maximum VLANs                  : 0              perpetual
   Inside Hosts                   : Unlimited      perpetual
   Failover                       : Disabled       perpetual
   VPN-DES                        : Disabled       perpetual
   VPN-3DES-AES                   : Enabled        perpetual
   Security Contexts              : 12             perpetual
   GTP/GPRS                       : Enabled        perpetual
SSL VPN Peers                  : 4              perpetual
Total VPN Peers                : 0              perpetual
   Shared License                 : Disabled       perpetual
AnyConnect for Mobile          : Disabled       perpetual
AnyConnect for Cisco VPN Phone : Disabled       perpetual
   AnyConnect Essentials          : Disabled       perpetual
Advanced Endpoint Assessment   : Disabled       perpetual
UC Phone Proxy Sessions        : 4              perpetual
Total UC Proxy Sessions        : 4              perpetual
Botnet Traffic Filter          : Enabled        33 days
Intercompany Media Engine      : Disabled       perpetual

Hope this clears out your doubts,

Thanks,
