Yes, it doesn't require any reboot once you upload the ASDM image. You would need to configure the following once you have uploaded the asdm image:

asdm image flash:/

You should be able to download the asdm image from your other ASA (i never personally try that), but you can also as easily download the ASDM image from the following download site:

http://www.cisco.com/cisco/software/release.html?mdfid=279916854&flowid=4818&softwareid=280775064

Hi,

Would you please do a show flash and verify that the ASDM image is on flash?

Cheers

Mike

Mike

it is seen on the flash, as below.

sh flas

--#--  --length--  -----date/time------  path

    14137344    April 22 2009 08:14:40  asa804-k8.bin

   5823980     May 07 2003 16:31:12  asdm-506.bin

ASDM version 5.0.6 is not supported if you are running ASA version 8.0.4.

You would need to be running at least ASDM version 6.1.5 or later.

Here is the hardware/software compatibility matrix for ASA:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/asa/compatibility/asamatrx.html

thanks Jennifer. is there a way to get needed asdm 6.1 from another asa.

there is another asa with this 6.1 asdm. Can i get it from this and load it online, without any interruption or reboot.
