asa5540 pair in active active failover-flopping between units, asdm slow

Wondering if anyone else has had this issue.

Situation is that units are trading active status between devices.  Was fine until about a week ago. Performance has been sluggish and asdm is slow to load, sometimes dropping connection.  We have multiple interfaces and subinterfaces, but overall, config has been fairly static without any trouble.  Did have an error on ips module, however it seems isolated.

Are the units configured for active/active with multiple context and failove groups or you are saying that the units

keep failing over when configured as active/standby?

Either way, we need to know quite a few things before we can say anything on this matter.

1. asa code?

2. active/active or active/standby configuration?

3. sh fail history  - output

4. what do the syslogs say during the time of the problem?
