Cisco 2621 Used in place of PIX

I have got a spare Cisco 2621 router which i intend to used as a firewall instead of a new PIX 515.Do i need to upgrade the IOS image or could i use the current one?

Could advise please.

PS I will be using this router in a test Lab.

It depends- what version of IOS do you have on the 2621? Post the ouput of a "show version". You need to be running the firewall feature set image.

I am already doing this as well. the Type of 2621 ( is it an XM) and the amout of Flash and Ram will determine if you can run the Firewall feature set IOS. if you have a CCO login you can go through and find out. Remember if you haven't used the Firewall feature set on a router before, It is different than a PIX in how you configure the Statefull inspections.

What you need is a Firewall feature set IOS. You can download it here with a CCO login.

You will need to enable CBAC to do stateful inspections.
