Cisco ASA Licence Activation

         Good afternoon,

I've got a number of Cisco ASA firewalls with exactly the same issue where by I need to activate the liecence key for each unit. How do I go about setting up the activation? is this going to cost £?, can I check by the serial number to see what the original setup was for the ASA, any help would be really helpful.

What has happened to the activation key from this unit, I take it you are referring to the error "

The Running Activation Key is not valid, using default settings:" the way I would get the correct activation key on these units is apply for the 3DES/AES license.

Depending on the type of license you need, you might need to pay some money.

If the devices already have a license but you just happen to don't have the activation-key, you can contact the licensing team [licensing@cisco.com] in order to get the activation key again.

As Craig mentioned, there are some licenses you get for free, like the 3DES/AES encryption license, but it depends on what you need on your devices.

Serial number of the unit and the license/features you want to get for you ASA.

Ok got the serial numbers is it possible to have liecence/features the customer had on the unit before it came for repair to myself ? would cisco be able to tell

Yes, if you are replacing one unit with other, you can provide the SN of the previous units and mention that you want to replace them and need the same features on the new units.
