We're exploring the options of remote storage servers for FMC. I know FMC is quite picky when it comes to remote storage. we don't have NFS or SMB set up, so would prefer backup via SSH. I read the other posts people were recommending SolarWinds SFTP or FileZilla, just wondering if anyone has experience in setting this up?

Right now im running a simple ubuntu server, and then ssh to that. That works fine.
But if you do that, make sure your ubuntu server is outside your datacenter.

If worst case something happends in the datacenter. For instance to much power is sent in, so all your equipment gets burned. If your backup is in the same place, then you got nothing.
Its always recommended to have your backup at another site if possible. Depending on the size of the company, less could be acceptable. A raspberry pi with a 256gb sd card could do the job i think if its just fmc backup you need.
I you got other things you need backup of as well, i would go with a physical machine or a virtual environment placed outside datacenter
