Registering Sourcfire 3D Sensor 8130 with FMCv

We recovered/repaired a Sourcefire 3D Sensor 8130 (power supplies had died) - device is up and running. I am able to log into the device using admin credentials. I see it was registered with an older, removed FMC device. I want to register it with a newer FMCv that is in place. I follow the procedure to register (added the FMCv in the Sourcefire device, created a unique registration key, went into FMCv, entered in the device info with registration key), but it can't establish a connection with device.

Can I register a much older device (Sourcefire 3D Sensor 8130) to a newer FMCv? It is using an older OS that I want to update once I register it to the newer FMCv.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

If the 8130 is running 5.x or 6.0 and your FMC is anywhere near current you won't be able to manage it without first upgrading.

See this table for compatibility:

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/security/firepower/compatibility/firepower-compatibility.html#reference_A0CAB7C28A2B440F8F901D316D6684F4

If there's nothing you need to save on the 8130, the easiest path is to just reimage it to 6.4.0 and then patch to 6.4.10 (assuming your FMC is at or above that release). The iso file here can be used to reimage:

https://software.cisco.com/download/home/286261241/type/286271056/release/6.4.0?i=!pp

6.4.x is the last code train available for the 8130 since it went end of sales in late 2017.
