SFTP With ASA

Up until now, we have been using port forwarding with an SFTP server on our local network to share and receive files from partners and vendors (not very secure I know), but we have switched to a Cisco network with a firewall now. What is a recommended way to handle this function going forward? I heard that SFTP can be tricky to work with or configure when it comes to Cisco ASA/Firepower? I'm pretty new to the security side of Cisco versus just the routing/switching, so how does this work exactly? I take it some ports will need to be opened in the firewall and ACL rules set, along with NAT? Or is some other way of sharing larger files recommended entirely in this situation?

We have an SSL VPN up for our remote employees to be able to connect and access local resources, but I don't know if this will really help or add anything when it comes to FTP functionality.

Any tips appreciated, thank you.
