Hello Friends.

I have used Cisco ASA 5505 Firewall for my official purpose. When I try to open ASDM it shows "Unable to launch device manager from xxx.xxx.xxx.2 "

In ASDM-IDM Java Console, the log shows

Local Launcher Version = 1.5.50

Local Launcher Version Display = 1.5(50)

Cannot read profile file C:\User\XXX\.asdm\data\deviceinfo.conf.

ok button clicked

Trying for ASDM Version file; url = https://xxx.xxx.xxx.2/admin/

Java.lang.ClassCastException: sun.security.ssl.X509TrustManagerImpl cannot be cast to com.sun.net.ssl.internal.ssl.X509ExtendedTrustManager

Please Advise in this case

Regards

Thilak

Your ASDM is extremely outdated (>4 years old). I doubt you will be able to get it to work with a current Java release.

Can you update to a current ASDM version and try to connect?

7.8(2.151) is the most recent as of right now and will work with your ASA hardware and software.

Has it ever worked?

Have you confirmed that the ASDM bin file specified in the running configuration is present on the ASA's disk?

Hello Marvin Rhoads,

It's worked before and additionally the java has updated to its latest version JAVA 8 update 151.

Thilak.

OK.

What version of ASDM is installed on the ASA? ("show run asdm")

Older ASDM versions have been known to cause this problem when coupled with newer Java releases.

ASDM-IDM Launcher Version 1.5 (50)

That's the launcher on the PC. I'm asking about the actual ASDM image on the ASA.

It's ASA 8.4.5

Please read my question.

In order to assist I have asked for the ASDM image version on the ASA. As I mentioned earlier you can type "show run asdm" to retrieve that information.

Hello Marvin Rhaods,

How do you update to a current asdm? The command show asdm image gives me Asdm-645.bin which I believe is an older version.  Can you please send me the specific instructions or commands necessary to do this?
