XP clients not pingable once on LAN

Hi all,

I have noticed that cleints running th Cisco VPN client 4.0.1, once they connect locally on the network (not through VPN) aren't reachable. I try to ping them and get no reply. If I stop the service "Cisco Systems, Inc. VPN Service" is running, nothing goes through. But when I stop it, I can ping with a response and I can do a Computer managment on it.

Is there anything I can do without having to stop this service?

Thanks in advance,

Michael.

This sounds like the stateful firewall within the VPN client is set to "always on". This setting means that even though you don't have a VPN connected, the stateful firewall will stop any connections initiated from someone else going to your PC, this includes someone pinging it.

Go under the Options menu and see if "Stateful Firewall (Always On) is checked. If so, uncheck it and you should be good to go.
