Cisco Application Hosting on Catalyst 9000 series of switches extends the cloud to the edge of the network enabling data processing closer to the critical source in a distributed manner. Application Hosting is used by various businesses and developers to host new breed for Security, network monitoring/troubleshooting and data analytics tools removing the need for expensive hardware or compute nodes. Catalyst 9000 series switches run on open and modular IOS-XE which is programmable. With Polaris IOS-XE 16.12.1 software release, Catalyst 9300 series switches will have native docker engine. Developers can now quickly develop docker applications and deploy them as needed, shortening the development cycle.

Code for Catalyst challenge is a platform to contribute towards developing docker based applications which are of business relevance and can run on Catalyst 9000 series switches. Current target platform would be Catalyst 9300 series switches.
