I have a basic home setup with a cable modem, and a cisco pix. I am running a workgroup, and attempting to not stand up a domain controller, dns server or WINS server just to ping my hosts by name.
From the inside, i can ping every single host by hostname and ip address.
From the outside interface, i can ping the ip address of every machine, but i can not ping the hostnames.
I have enabled netbios inspection on my PIX. All NIC cards and VPN adapaters are set to use NetBIOS over TCP/IP on every client. I can ping -a <IPADDRESS> and get a hostname.
Does anyone know what needs to be done to allow this traffic to flow properly so i can ping my hosts by name.
