Core issue
The system fan assembly should operate whenever the system power is on. You should be able to hear the fan assembly to determine if it is operating. The fan LED on the supervisor should be green.
Resolution
To resolve this issue, perform these steps:
- Inspect the fan assembly and power supplies for any problems.
- Determine if the fan status is faulty by issuing the show system command.
- Inspect the fan assembly and the power supplies and verify that power is being applied to the system.
- Reseat the fan assembly and tighten the captive installation screws. If necessary, reset the switch.
- If the status is still red, or the show system command still shows a faulty status, then this is a fan failure.
- Remove and replace the fan.
