Solution

Catalyst OS (CatOS) does not support setting individual passwords for console and Telnet. The set password command sets a common password for console and Telnet access.

This is an example of how to set the login password on the switch:

Console> (enable) set password
Enter old password: (old_password)
Enter new password: (new_password)
Retype new password: (new_password)
Password changed.
Console> (enable)

This is an example of how to set the enable password on the switch:

Console> (enable) set enablepass
Enter old password: (old_password)
Enter new password: (new_password)
Retype new password: (new_password)
Password changed.
Console> (enable)

For more information on configuring console and Telnet passwords in a CatOS switch, refer to the Setting the Login Password section of Configuring Switch Access Using AAA.
