Radio Aware Routing

  • What is it?
  • Radio-Aware routing is a mechanism where radios can interact with routing protocols (OSPFv3, EIGRP) to signal the appearance, disappearance, and link conditions of routing neighbors.

  • Why is it needed?
  • In highly mobile networks, connections to routing neighbors can come and go due to distance and radio obstructions. Without these signals into the routing protocols, protocol timers would need to be used to update a neighbor’s status. Routing protocols tend to have lengthy timers which is not acceptable in mobile networks.
